In any hospice, many patients and staff who have no connection whatever with any church, or may be of another faith, still generally welcome a chaplain's visit. The Spiritual Care Team at the Peace Hospice, Watford, includes contact with ministers of the larger Christian denominations, as well as leaders from the main world faiths - Islam, Jewish and Hindu. We co-exist in harmony, friendship and mutual support in service to our patients and families and staff., and we recognise the spiritual needs of those of no faith.

Although a hospice chaplain inevitably sees a lot of people come to the end of their lives, there are also a lot of rewards.   To be allowed to offer support to bereaved families, and to pray with the dying, is a great privilege. We are not there to evangelise, and are happy to be with people of any faith or of none. The important thing is to assure them that God is not the enemy, but the greatest resource they have to help them in their time of trouble.
