In any
hospice, many patients and staff who have no connection whatever with any
church, or may even be of another faith, still generally welcome a chaplain's
visit. The Chaplain's Team at the Peace Hospice, Watford includes ministers
of the main Christian denominations, as well as leaders from the main world
faiths - Islam, Jewish and Hindu. We co-exist in harmony, friendship and mutual
support in service to our patients and families.
Although a hospice chaplain inevitably sees a lot of people come to the end
of their lives, there are also a lot of rewards. To be allowed to offer
support to bereaved families, and to pray with the dying, is a great privilege.
We are not there to evangelise, and are happy to be with people of any faith
or of none. The important thing is to assure them that God is not the enemy,
but the greatest resource they have to help them in their time of trouble.
